A new species of banjo catfish described
November 7th, 2008 by admin

Five species of banjo catfish (Aspredinids) in the genus Bunocephalus were found to be unrelated to the other species in the genus and thus put into their own genus, Pseudobunocephalus or false Bunocephalus. These fish typically grow up to about 3 inches long, live throughout the Orinoco River basin of Colombia and Venezuela, tend to be bottom dwellers and are rather sluggish unless disturbed.
In addition a sixth species has been discovered called P. lundbergi. While only found in a three different locations so far, it too is presumed widely distributed throughout the Orinoco drainage. It’s a diminutive species with an overall length of a little more an inch.
